I’ve known Lesley since 5th grade. She and her sweet family were visiting from Washington D.C., so we set up a last-minute sunrise photoshoot at Metcalf Bottoms so that they could play in the water. Lesley and her little one are nature girls. Hubby and teenaged daughter … not so much! But their laughter and smiles say it all.
Not pictured is the bear cub we saw as we drove out of the mountains. This cub was on the side of the road and began scratching its back on a tree! I’ve seen many bears driving through Cades Cove or deeper into the woods as I drive through the mountains. This was probably the closest I had ever seen it! Pro-tip: when are you visiting the Great Smoky Mountains and you see a bear as you drive, if you can safely pull over, do so. Do not roll down your windows or try to interact with the wildlife. Most importantly, yes, it’s exciting, but please be mindful of the car and foot traffic that may be around you.
